Microsoft Purview DLP Implementation
Implementation of Data Loss Prevention strategies in M365 environments – from gap analysis to rolled-out policy framework.
About the Project
Two clients – a publishing house and an industry association – had sensitive data without technical protection in their M365 environments. CISO assessments revealed significant gaps in data security.
The Problem
Manuscripts, contracts and personal data lay unprotected in SharePoint, Teams and Exchange. No systematic classification concept, no DLP policies, no clear governance.
The Solution
Structured gap analysis and phased rollout of Microsoft Purview DLP policies – implemented in parallel for both clients. AS-IS analysis with identification of critical data categories. Policy design for Exchange, SharePoint, Teams and OneDrive. Sensitivity Labels and automatic classification of sensitive content. Phased rollout with test and production phases, coordinated with data protection officers. Best practices guide and training materials for internal teams.
Highlights
- DLP policies configured and rolled out for complete M365 environment
- Sensitivity Labels and automatic classification implemented
- GDPR-compliant implementation coordinated with data protection officers
- Implemented in parallel for two clients with different requirements
Challenges
Parallel implementation for two clients with different data categories and compliance requirements. Balance between security and usability.
Results
Complete DLP framework in production. Measurable reduction of unauthorized data sharing risk. Clear governance structure and documented processes for future adjustments.
